PRESS RELEASE Amman, July 30, 2006 In addition to the daily shows in the Jerash hippodrome, the Roman Army and Chariot Experience (RACE) is staging regular evening performances in the Roman theatre in downtown Amman. These performances are part of the Amman Summer Festival organized by the Municipality in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Jordan Tourism Board. Other performers include singers, traditional dancing troupes and the Jordan Army Band. The RACE part of the show consists of 35 fully armed Roman legionaries showing battle formations and tactics and five pairs of gladiators “fighting it to the death”. The theatre setting -- with its Roman architecture and acoustics in combination with advanced sound and light effects -- makes the show truly spectacular. When the fate of the gladiators that lost their fights is decided by the audience with a thumbs up or thumbs down, the cheering and shouting is deafening.
